Intelligence at the lower levels of government, at least in some jurisdictions, finally forced Ontario to adopt non-smoking laws province-wide, which are about to come into effect.

Now the parallel battle has moved to pesticides.

The latest local skirmish took place around Oak Lake, just south of Stirling, where concerned residents forced backward politicians to examine the evidence and pass a bylaw banning the use of cosmetic pesticides in that part of Quinte West.

This is quite an accomplishment considering QW is one of the last stubborn holdouts in the no-smoking wars.
